It is with great pleasure that CIDAL announces the appointment of Hugo W. Avila, M.D. as Chief Medical Officer, North Region, effective February 01, 2016. Dr. Avila received his medical degree from the University of San Carlos School of Medicine in Guatemala, and pursued specialty training in Pediatrics at the affiliated hospitals of Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala. In addition, he has studies in Business Administration. He has had a distinguished career as Principal Investigator in several clinical research studies in pediatrics. Then in 2008 he joined Schering Plough/Merck Sharp and Dohme, where he had several positions of increasing responsibility within Central America and the Caribbean. From 2010-2016, he was Clinical Research Manager at MSD. He is a former President of the Association of Clinical Research, Guatemala.
Dr. Avila developed and acquired great in-depth expertise of the clinical research process for pharmaceuticals. His operational skills and Good Clinical Practice command are second to none. He is a gifted speaker. We welcome Hugo as a trusted colleague who epitomizes and will further validate the best of CIDAL’s Local Knowledge, while contributing to CIDAL’s growth in Latin America by delivering timely and quality results for the studies entrusted to CIDAL. Dr. Avila will manage CIDAL’s operations in Central America, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru and Colombia, and will work closely with Dr. Carlos Caparros, CMO, South Region to fully integrate our Latin American operations to ensure effective and efficient execution of CIDAL’s portfolio of clinical trials. He will be a member of CIDAL’s Executive Management Team. He will report directly to Dr. Leon Arango, CEO.
